Welcome to the City of Lockhart!

I'm excited when we have visitors to our site, because that means someone new will learn about Lockhart and the many things we have to offer. Whether you are an individual looking for a place to live, work, retire, or raise your family, or an organization looking for the right place that will offer a suitable workforce in an environment of economic, geographic and social stability, Lockhart can meet your needs. For those businesses interested in our city that meet certain criteria, Lockhart can offer competitive incentive packages.

With a predominantly bilingual English and Spanish speaking population of about 13,600, the City of Lockhart is a progressive, thriving community, thanks to our central location to Austin, San Marcos, San Antonio and the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA). You can be at the ABIA in 20 minutes or in downtown Austin in about 35 minutes from Lockhart. We are just 17 miles from I-35 and 17 miles from I-10, and SH-130 is being constructed within our city limits to the north and west.

Because we have four barbecue restaurants that are rated in the top ten of the whole state of Texas, Lockhart was officially dubbed by the state legislature as the ''Barbecue Capital of Texas.'' We have a small town quality of life, two industrial parks, a municipal airport, a technology training center, several new housing additions, and a productive young workforce, many of which work in the professional/technical occupations. We are also known for the friendliness of our citizens. When people visit our city, it doesn't take them long to notice and comment about the friendliness of our citizens and local businesses, which are always willing to go that extra mile for their neighbor or a stranger.

Lockhart has currently completed several projects and has numerous other on-going projects that include improvements to major streets, parks, and water infrastructure. We recently completed our Industrial Park II that has reasonably priced land and is available for locating new businesses. We also completed our Lockhart Town Branch Greenbelt project which preserved the many natural water springs in the area while at the same time addressing serious drainage related problems and also provided area residents with two new neighborhood parks connected by a 10-foot wide walkway. Our Maple Street Sports Complex which includes eight multi-purpose fields, a playground, fifteen picnic tables with grills, a 1.3 mile walking trail, a pond, a combination roller hockey/basketball court, and a combination concession/restroom facility. In addition, a new very unique skateboard park facility has been constructed in City Park which attracts patrons from many parts of Texas. Almost 6 miles of sidewalks and pathways that connect city parks, most school campuses, and our historical downtown area have been recently constructed.

The City of Lockhart is fortunate to have a staff of proficient individuals who excel in each of their areas. Their success is attributed to making their main priorities excellent customer service, strong teamwork, and open sharing of information, not only with other staff members, but also with our customers. So, if you have any questions that we can help you with, please give us a call at our main telephone number, 512-398-3461 or email us your inquiries. We'll be happy to talk with you.

So come on down and visit Lockhart, and see what you've been missing that Lockhart can provide.

Sincerely,

Vance Rodgers
