Lockhart's Annual Juneteenth Celebration
Hosted by the District 1 Pride, the Progressive Club and the City of Lockhart, the annual Juneteenth Picnic at City Park the third Saturday in June.
June 19th marks the anniversary of the date Texas slaves were freed. Even though slaves were freed in other states in 1863, in Texas slaves were not made aware of emancipation until June 19, 1865.
This event offers swimming, fishing, races, and gospel performances, as well as guest speeches and an awards presentation. Participants are encouraged to bring their picnic goodies, family and friends.
The City of Lockhart co-sponsors this event with the District 1 Pride, and the Progressive Club.
