Cinco De Mayo
Cinco De Mayo is an annual festival where Lockhart celebrates the victory of the Mexican Army, under General Ignacio Zaragoza, where 5,000 ill-equipped Mestizo and Zapotec Indians defeated the French army in 1862 in what came to be known as the "Batalla de Puebla" on the fifth of May. In the United States the "Batalla de Puebla" came to be known as simply "Cinco de Mayo" and unfortunately many people wrongly equate it with Mexican Independence which was on September 16, 1810, nearly a fifty year difference. The festival includes, crafts booths, great food, live entertainment and much more! Festival activities are held the last weekend in April or the the first weekend in May.
This event is co-sponsored by the Caldwell County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the City of Lockhart.
