CDC: Masking encouraged in public indoor spaces in areas of high transmission
08/03/2021

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new masking recommendations citing new information on the Delta variant. The new guidelines recommend fully vaccinated individuals to wear masks in public indoor settings, especially in areas of substantial and high transmission, because new data suggests that vaccinated people can pass on the virus.

However, the medical community maintains the vaccines are still the best way to prevent getting severely sick from COVID-19. Even with the more contagious Delta variant, most patients who die from COVID, or are hospitalized with severe symptoms are unvaccinated.

In May, Governor Abbott issued an executive order prohibiting local government entities from imposing mask mandates, that means the City of Lockhart is not allowed to require citizens to wear masks anywhere, including city property. The governor’s order also states that the City cannot require municipal workers to wear masks or be vaccinated unless they fall under a stated exception. Businesses, however, may decide to put their own mask requirements in place. Despite imposed limitations, the City of Lockhart is encouraging you to help stop the coronavirus in its tracks.

“Vaccines are readily available in Lockhart. No matter where you go, whether it be a pharmacy, grocery store, or your doctor’s office, there will be a dose ready for you,” said Lockhart Mayor Lew White. “Be responsible and do your part to stop the spread.”
