Golf Carts in Lockhart
In 2011, the Lockhart City Council adopted an ordinance allowing the permitting and operation of golf carts on city streets. Currently, it requires golf cart operators to apply for an annual permit through the Lockhart Police Department, carry a valid driver's license, and maintain financial responsibility. The ordinance also requires the vehicle to be equipped with the following:
Golf carts may only operate on streets with a speed limit of 30 miles per hour or less. A golf cart may cross a street at an intersection where the road or street has a posted speed limit of more than 30 miles per hour.
Golf Carts are PROHIBITED on:
- State Highways and Farm to Market roads.
- City streets with posted speed limit of more than 30 miles per hour.
- City streets within a posted school zone, where the street has a posted speed limit that is greater than 30 miles per hour during non-school hours.
