Recognition of Lockhart High School’s Cross-Country team, the energy assistance program agreement, board and commission process changes, public sidewalks and covered parking ordinances were discussed in last night’s City Council Meeting.

Lockhart High School Cross Country Team: Mayor White recognized Lockhart High School’s Cross-Country team for placing in the UIL Cross Country meet.

Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program Agreement: City Council authorized the City Manager to continue the City’s partnership with Community Action, Inc.’s Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program (CEAP).  The program assists Lockhart residents with the electric portion of their bills prioritizing low-income families with children under five years old, and/or elderly, disabled, or veteran family members. The CEAP does not apply to water/wastewater, solid waste, and recycling fees.

Public Sidewalk Ordinance: City Council directed City Staff to prepare an ordinance revision addressing public sidewalk maintenance and ownership, defective sidewalks, funding sources, and cost-sharing with residential property owners.

Zoning Amendment for Covered Parking: City Council directed Staff to begin the process to amend the zoning ordinance to require covered parking (garages/carports) for detached single-family homes. The Planning and Zoning Commission will consider this item in its January 26th meeting. With the commission’s recommendation, a public hearing for the adoption of the ordinance will be held in the February 1st City Council meeting, at the earliest.

Citizen Board and Commission Process Changes: City Council directed Staff to prepare a resolution requiring Councilmembers’ nominations to be submitted to the City Secretary at least seven days prior to the scheduled City Council meeting, at which the nomination will be considered.
