What is a short-term rental?
Any residential property or portion of a property that rented out on a short-term basis--for a period of fewer than 30 days--is considered a short-term rental. Short-term rentals include homes that listed for rent on Airbnb, VRBO Vacation Rentals, HomeAway, and similar websites.
Regulations
At the March 1, 2022 City Council meeting, Councilmembers approved an ordinance that establishes a registration process for short-term rental units. The ordinance provides the City a tool to track and regulate short-term rental units in order to protect the health and safety of occupants, and to preserve the integrity of the neighborhoods where these units operate. Under the new ordinance, which you can read by clicking here, short-term rental unit owners are required to fill out an application and provide the following to be eligible for approval:
- Pay the $50 Registration Fee.
- Provide the property owner's contact information.
- Provide a local emergency contact information.
- Working smoke alarms.
- Working carbon monoxide alarm.
- Working fire extinguishers.
- Maximum occupancy and parking are approved by the Planning and Zoning Department.
Once an application has been approved and the registration fee has been paid, a permit will be issued for one year.
