USDA designates Caldwell County as "Primary Disaster Area" due to intense drought

This week, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) designated Caldwell County as a Primary Disaster Area due to intense drought conditions during the growing season. As a Primary Disaster Area, affected farmers and ranchers may apply for emergency loans through the USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) to assist with various recovery needs including replacement of essential equipment, livestock, reorganization of a farming operation, or the refinance of certain debts. The FSA will review the loans based on the extent of losses.

Bastrop, Fayette, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Hays, and Travis Counties also received the designation. The deadline to apply for benefits is February 13, 2023. For more information and resources, click here.
