Special City Council Recap: November 7, 2022
11/08/2022

Confirmation of an Interim Police Chief and an Interlocal Cooperative Agreement for law enforcement services with Caldwell County were discussed in Monday night’s Special City Council meeting.

Interim Police Chief: City Council confirmed the City Manager’s appointment of Mr. Kevin Lunsford as the Lockhart Police Department’s Interim Police Chief. He brings 40 years of law enforcement experience—most recently as Huntsville’s Police Chief and Public Safety Director—to the City while recruitment for the next Police Chief continues. Aside from managing operations at LPD, Lunsford will also assist the City in the Police Chief hiring process, which could take approximately four months.

Interlocal Cooperative Agreement: Councilmembers approved an Interlocal Cooperative Agreement with Caldwell County for law enforcement services. The agreement enables the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office to provide law enforcement services to the City on an as-needed basis, which could alleviate understaffing at the Lockhart Police Department. The term of the agreement is six months and is pending approval from the Commissioners Court.
