The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is holding a public hearing on the FM 2720 Project on Thursday, June 1, 2023, 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. The hearing will be conducted both virtually and in-person--with the latter being held at Lockhart Junior High School (500 City Line Rd.). The purpose of the public hearing is to receive public comment on the proposed improvements to FM 2720 in Hays and Caldwell Counties.
The proposed project would improve 7.2 miles of FM 2720 from SH 21 to SH 142 in Hays and Caldwell counties, including intersection improvements at CR 235. The purpose of the proposed project is to enhance safety, improve connectivity and improve mobility by providing additional roadway capacity to meet current and future traffic demands due to population growth and increased traffic volumes. Throughout the project limits, the existing roadway is two lanes.
Proposed improvements would:
- Widen to a four-lane undivided roadway with a center two-way left-turn lane from SH 21 to south of CR 228.
- Widen to a four-lane divided roadway from south of CR 228 to just south of CR 235.
- Widen to a two-lane roadway with a center two-way left-turn lane from south of CR 235 to SH 142.
- Separate travel lanes by adding a two-way left-turn lane or grassy median with cable barrier.
- Add right-turn lanes at various intersections.
- Add safety improvements to the intersection at CR 235.
- Upgrade the signal at SH 21 and FM 2720.
Additional right of way would be required; however, no residential or non-residential displacements are anticipated at this time.
