LOCKHART, Tx—City Manager Steve Lewis has selected Joseph Resendez as Assistant City Manager for the City of Lockhart. Resendez, who begins his new position on July 17, 2023, will assist the City Manager in the coordination and implementation of City Council goals, development issues, project management, and city management research needs. Resendez will also assist in providing strategic direction and leadership oversight to assigned City Departments.

Resendez occupied many roles throughout his career in local government. Most recently, he served as the City of Bartlett’s City Administrator and City Secretary following the policy directives of City Council and providing executive support to the Mayor. His initiatives included operationally focused technology upgrades, values-based organizational development, increasing transparency and citizen engagement, and facilitating a developing $1.9 million Capital Improvement Program, which included sidewalk, water, wastewater, drainage, broadband, and electric utility infrastructure improvements. Previous government roles include the City of Taylor’s Assistant Director of Finance, Budget & Financial Analyst, and Claims Assistant at the Texas Municipal League’s Intergovernmental Risk Pool.
His professional involvement in the public sector and City Management profession includes membership to the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and the Texas City Management Association (TCMA) where he was distinguished as a 2018 Ridley Scholar and 2023 Barney Knight Scholar. He is currently working with the Urban Management Assistants of Central Texas (UMACT) where he was identified as a "Local Government Leader of Tomorrow.” He was also recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) with the Distinguished Budget Award for FY 2020 and FY 2021 during his time with the City of Taylor.

Growing up in Central Texas, Resendez attended Pflugerville High School and, later, went to the University of Texas at Austin to earn his Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies. He is currently working on his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Texas State University, while also pursuing a Certified Public Manager credential.
Resendez will play an important role in directing and evaluating City departmental operations and coordinating with community organizations.
